Alarming did you known that Australian men over women are a lot more likely to move toward serious health problems. It would seem that three men for every two women die from preventable health problems and compared to women, men do not take time out to spend with the doctor they usually wait until the issue or illness is in the later stages.

We go back to 2008 where data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows us that the top health issues causing death in Australian men include the following; In order FIRST TO LAST:

Put simply, those that do not partake in some type of daily exercise, are under pressure or stressed, with those that smoke, then add, an unhealthy diet all this leads to high blood pressure and bad cholesterol, which of course can cause heart disease and heart attacks. The symptoms that arise in men include central chest tightness, discomfort or pain which could move into the neck, jaw or shoulders

PROSTATE CANCER

This is something Australia Men over 50 can get checked. Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia tell us that in Australia every year there are around 3, 500 that die of prostate cancer and about 20 000 new cases are diagnosed. It should be noted that prostate cancer is most common in men over the age of 50, some younger men especially those with family history could be at greater risk.

Make an effort!

When prostate cancer is detected in the early stages, it can be cured, especially when it is still confined within the prostate gland. Australian men should be aware that it is a very simple and quick procedure to have the prostate checked, the recommendation is to get it done, this simple checkup that take less than a few seconds could save your life!

COLON AND RECTAL CANCER

Did you know that 80 deaths occur from bowel cancer in Australia every week and 54% that 80 are Australia men!

Australia has in place a national bowel cancer screening program and they estimate that it is one of the most commonly occurring internal cancers and the it is the second most common cause of cancer relating to death, after lung cancer.

DEMENTIA AND ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

Australian statistics show that there are more than 353,800 Australians living with aAlzheimer's or other forms of dementia and this number is expected to rise to 400,000 over the next few years. It seem that unless there is some kind of medical breakthrough, the number of people with dementia in Australia is expected to exceed 900,000 by 2050. The disease usually occurs after age 65 but is also on the rise among people in their 30's, 40's and 50's.

Make an effort!

As we have no cure for Alzheimer's or dementia. The research continues, however, some drugs are available called cholinergeric drugs, these do seem to provide some improvement in cognitive functioning in mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease.

DIABETES

Australia has a population of around 24 million people and approximately 1 million of those Australians have already been diagnosed with diabetes.

Interestingly the prevalence of type 2' diabetes rises with age so, Australian men over 40 - 50 and up need to be aware and have sugar levels checked. The Australian Government declared a national health priority in 1997.

Make an effort!

Australian men need to make diabetes prevention a priority especially in over weight situations or the family has a proven history of diabetes. The most successful prevention method is to eat the right foods and lose weight where needed. Men with diabetes or onset diabetes need to become more active.

BLOOD AND LYMPH CANCER, INCLUDING LEUKAEMIA

Blood disorders like leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and other related blood disorders can show up men and women of just about any age. BUT! Again we have the issue that it is very typically that more Australian men are diagnosed with and pass away from these blood disorders over Australian women.

Make an effort!

It is very unfortunate that we have no way of preventing most types of leukemia. Most Australians or all people for that matter with leukemia don't show any known risk factors. Keeping in mind that a risk factor is anything that increases a person's chance of finding themselves with the disease. In some cases some of the types of leukemia perhaps prevented by avoiding areas of high of radiation or exposure to the chemical benzene and we find ourselves back at smoking - DO NOT SMOKE and DON'T use tobacco.

It is estimated that Australian men are four times more likely to die by suicide than women, and men for some reason make it harder on themselves by use more violent means to end their lives. Depression is one of the main causes then relationship breakups, financial problems, and alcohol is a big one.

Make an effort!

Let's start the prevention by saying tomorrow is a new day, and while things might look really bad today, things can and do change very quickly and if a person is not here, then they will never know if things changed for the better? In many cases it is the people that are left behind that suffer the most, wonder and ask why and feel terrible.
